Glamping to Destroy Camping in Pakistan!

Ever since man discovered nature, ‘camping’ has meant moving away from the hustle and bustle of the cities and reconnecting with nature in solitude; Free from the prison of hectic routine, internet, social media and people, camping is essentially the break we all long for. Not only was it good for visitors but also the environment which mostly remained untainted once the humans left (except for the trash!).Ever since man discovered nature, ‘camping’ has meant moving away from the hustle and bustle of the cities and reconnecting with nature in solitude; Free from the prison of hectic routine, internet, social media and people, camping is essentially the break we all long for. Not only was it good for visitors but also the environment which mostly remained untainted once the humans left (except for the trash!).

Modern camping however is a completely different story though. Completely destroying the notion of ‘un-plugging’, a modern ‘camper’ will arrive in the forest with everything pre-arranged for him. Unfortunately, this menace has turned its face towards Pakistan as well. The KPK government has now installed luxurious camping pods in three different sites of KP. The pods have been facilitated with:

  • WiFi
  • Beds
  • Mobile charging ports
  • Light and fans etc
  • Public Kitchens
  • Swings and Slides

The worst part is that these ports have been designed in the form of community where group pods are built together to give you neighbors in the camping as well. The placement of swings and slides and playing grounds of children and proper kitchen for cooking make it a sin to call these pods as “camping pods”. This completely deteriorate the camping notion of privacy and solitude of people, family or friends. These pods are more to be called “resting huts” than camping pods.

These “unportable” pods adorned with countless facilities and online booking facilities will slowly expand to the bigger scale. One can only hope that it will not convert the natural entertainment and  process into yet another commercialized place and will turn these untouched gems of nature into crowded spots and piles of garbage.
